Over the last 6 years Alan and Oriel have together with their visitors raised money and project managed building of Twabuka community school in the proximity of the lodge. The construction of the school was carried out by the local community in order to insure that the maximum percentage of funds raised benefited the maximum number of members of the community. The development involves a borehole, five class rooms, a kitchen/dining area, toilets and an egg laying project. Further developments are planned for 2010. The aim of the project is to provide education and training for the local children and the community in general. Guest staying at Bushbuck River House can visit the school and the community if they wish.
