Caring for destination

This tour provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

Our main area of focus is the community and environment

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

Food:

We source most our vegetables from one of the markets: ‘Maramba Market’ and ‘Zimbabwe Market’.

For lunches and snacks we use a local company called ‘Lingalonga’ which is wholly owned by local Zambian women.

We employ locally trained Zambian cooks for catering of our long rafting trips, and we send assistant cooks with them for training.

Culture and Heritage:

Guests are informed about a local theatre (‘The Arts Café’) where there is a daily theatre play and locally manufactured curios on offer.

Guests are offered the opportunity to visit local curio markets.

Social and Economic:

Guests are informed about local culture and norms.

Guests are informed and encouraged to support Zambian community projects: Tikondane Project in Katete (eastern Zambia).

Bundu financially supports Tikondane Project in Katete.

Bundu was sponsoring the recently held choral singing competition (13 November 2010) at the Capitol Theatre organized by Spectrum Arts in Livingstone. (Sponsoring a Raft Safari for the winning choir)

Bundu has sponsored the Independence Day concert (organized by Jolly Boys) held at the Museum on the 24th and 25th of October. Various Zambian artists and bands performed on this concert.

Bundu is assisting the Fire Brigade in Livingstone with equipment for salvaging operations on the Zambezi River.

Environmental:

Bundu is regularly involved with clean-up operations down at the boiling pot area at the Victoria Falls.

Bundu has sponsored the Elephant Orphanage Project in Kafue National Park.

Bundu was also actively involved and assisting with equipment to rescue an elephant on Kalundu Island at Livingstone and brought to Kafue National Park.

Shelter used for our guests along the river was built wholly from local material and only local builders where used.
